Translating the mod

The mod ships in English and Spanish. I only maintain those two — every other language in the download comes from players who sent one in.

If yours is missing, you can add it, and you do not need any modding tool for most of it.

Inside the mod folder:

BQ_NightVisitor/translations/

There are four templates in there, plus a buffs/ subfolder and a README that says the same as this page.

Menus, dialogs, notifications, every setting. 605 lines.

  1. Copy _template.json (English) or _template_es.json (Spanish), whichever you would rather translate from.
  2. Rename it to your language code: fr.json, de.json, it.json, pt.json, ru.json, ja.json, ko.json, zh.json, pl.json, nl.json…
  3. Translate the right-hand side only. Never touch the keys on the left.
  4. Leave it in that same folder.
  5. Restart the game. The mod picks up your language on its own.

That is the whole process. No package editing, nothing to compile.

The names and descriptions of the 87 moodlets live inside the .package file, so a loose .json cannot reach them at runtime. You still write a .json, it just has to be baked in.

  1. Copy _template_buffs.json (or the _es one) and rename it to <code>.json.
  2. Put it in translations/buffs/.
  3. Each entry looks like this — translate only the values:
"EMB_VIC_F1_T1": {
"name": "This Can't Be Real",
"desc": "What? That stranger from the other night..."
}
  1. Send it to me and I will bake it into the next release.

Placeholders stay exactly as they are. {name}, {target}, {vn_name}, {n}, {min} — the game swaps these for sim names and numbers. Change one and that line breaks.

Gender tokens have two halves, and both need translating:

{F0.She did this.}{M0.He did this.}

The game shows the F0. half for a female sim and the M0. half for a male one. Keep the braces and the F0. / M0. prefixes untouched, translate the sentences inside.

\n is a line break. Leave it.

Save as UTF-8. With or without BOM, both work.

Anything you leave out falls back to English on its own, in both kinds of text. A half-finished translation will not crash anything and will not look broken — it will just be half English. Send it anyway, and add the rest later.

Post it in the LoversLab thread or on the Discord. I will credit you in the post, like the others.
